Why Switchless is printed on demand in the Netherlands

No containers from Asia and no stock gathering dust in the attic. Each front is printed after you order it, and that has pros and cons.
Switchless Pure in white

There is no stock of Switchless. If you order a faceplate, the printer starts. That's a double-edged sword, so here's what you can expect.

What you gain

  • Every color is available just as quickly. No color will be "temporarily out of stock" because too much white was purchased.
  • Improvements are implemented immediately. The click of the faceplate was adjusted after the first test fit; those who ordered afterwards immediately received the new version.
  • No boxes sitting in an attic for years discoloring, and no leftover stock ending up as waste.

What it costs

Time. Allow two to four business days for printing before your package is shipped. An 80 by 80 mm faceplate takes about an hour to print; the dock with the pause for the rings takes longer. That's the honest reason why there's no "delivered tomorrow" on the website.

Where it happens

On a Bambu A1 in the Netherlands, in PETG. This material is impact-resistant and doesn't yellow quickly, and it's stable at these sizes and temperatures: a faceplate mounted on a warm wall won't deform. The colors white, black, and cream come from the same type of filament, so the surface's matte finish remains consistent.

If it grows, this will likely change: for larger quantities, printing in a closed printer or via a print service becomes more logical, and for sales at scale, flame-retardant material comes into play. For now, the printer next to me is the entire factory.
